Soldier’s Relief Commission

The Soldier’s Relief Commission is responsible for providing emergency assistance to veterans and their dependents who are eligible. The assistance is generally provided in the form of food, shelter or clothing. Relief is also provided for medical and transportation expenses. Items such as medical expenses, prescriptions, food, housing, clothing, rent, taxes, utilities, telephone and transportation are considered for payment.

The Veteran’s Burial expenditures are also administered by the Soldiers and Sailors Relief Commission. The Commission can authorize up to $300 for the burial expenses of any veteran who dies and meets the provision of Public Act 225 of 1911, as amended, MSA 4. 1321 et. Seq. of 1978.

Bay County provides an equipped van in order to ensure much needed transportation to area veterans needing to keep appointments at area hospitals. Volunteers drive all over the county for pick up and drive to appointments as far away as Detroit.
